  21.            WinSpell requires Windows 3.1 to execute
  22.  
  23. WinSpell is a Windows based spelling supervisor which can check
  24. your spelling three different ways:
  25.  
  26.     1) WinSpell acts in real-time, as you type.  While typing,
  27.        WinSpell will notify you as soon as you misspell a word.
  28.  
  29.     2) WinSpell spell checks files such as Windows Write files and
  30.        ASCII text files.
  31.  
  32.     3) WinSpell checks the spelling of information copied to the
  33.        Clipboard.
  34.  
  35.     4) Looks up specific words with wildcard allowed
  36.  
  37. These four modes of WinSpell allow you to check your spelling in
  38. virtually any Windows application, including DOS based applications
  39. running in a window (via the clipboard), spreadsheets,
  40. telecommunication packages, e-mail sessions, etc.
  41.  
  42. If you would prefer to receive an Evaluation (ungregistered) copy
  43. directly from R&TH Inc., feel free to call us.  The distribution
  44. fee for the diskette is $5.00.  Evaluation disks will not be shipped
  45. without payment.

  47. INSTALLATION NOTES:
  48.   Delete the previous versions of WinSpell completely.  They are
  49.   no longer useful as Version 2.00 is not backward compatible with
  50.   the dictionary files.  If you have personal dictionary files
  51.   you still want to use, execute the DCT2ASC utility to convert
  52.   the dictionaries to a text file.  See your previous documentation
  53.   (WINSPELL.WRI) for details.  WinSpell version 2.00 can read text
  54.   files and merge them into the new dictionaries.  
  55.  
  56. VERY IMPORTANT OPTION:  Use Memory
  57.   WinSpell has the ability to run significantly faster by setting
  58.   the Use Memory option in the Settings/All... Dialog box.  This
  59.   option defaults to off upon first running WinSpell.  See the
  60.   Documentation in WINSPELL.WRI for more details.

  62. LICENSING:
  63.   WinSpell is ShareWare and as such, you have certain obligations to
  64.   register WinSpell if you use it past the initial evaluation period.

  68. NEW INSTALLATION:
  69.   In order to install any version of WinSpell, you must use the
  70.   WinSpell installation program.  The files are compressed and
  71.   cannot simply be copied:
  72.  
  73.       WinSpell Evaluation copies will generally be stored in ZIP,
  74.       LZH and/or ZOO formats.  The following examples assume ZIP.
  75.       Substitute the 'pkunzip' command with:
  76.          1) lha -x        for LZH format
  77.          2) zoo x         for ZOO format
  78.  
  79.   1)  Expand the (compressed) archive file:
  80.  
  81.          pkunzip winspell
  82.  
  83.   2)  Run the Installation program from floppy.  The Installation
  84.       program is a Windows program and as such, must be run under
  85.       Windows.  To run the installation program, use the File/Run
  86.       menu item of the Windows Program Manager and execute:

  88.          d:<path>install
  89.  
  90.       where d:<path> represents the full path from which WinSpell
  91.       should be installed.  For instance, "a:\install" would
  92.       execute the install program from floppy diskette A: .
  93.  
  94. The following is a short explanation for each file:
  95.  
  96.     WINSPELL.EXE - WinSpell's main executable.  This is the file that
  97.                    you will want to add to your program manager in
  98.                    Windows, or have Windows load via the "load=" option
  99.                    in WIN.INI.
  100.  
  101.                    WINSPELL.EXE is required for proper operation.
  102.  
  103.     WINSPDLL.DLL - WinSpell's dynamic link library.
  104.  
  105.                    WINSPDLL.DLL is required for proper operation.

  107.     WINSPELL.HLP - WinSpell's Help file for use in Windows Help.

  161.      Bug Fix Release
  162.           1) Fixed read error of common dictionary that could possibly
  163.              corrupt the data area of the Windows Shell (usually
  164.              Program Manager).  This usually manifested itself as
  165.              a message from the shell which complained about being
  166.              in an "Extremely Low Memory" condition and not allowing
  167.              exit of Windows.
  168.           2) Fixed read of Windows Write files which skipped the first
  169.              16 bytes of the Text information.  Usually showed up
  170.              as an incorrect spelling of a partial word on the first
  171.              line of a document.

  173.      Known bugs remaining:
  174.           1) Bitmap and Metafile pictures in files and the clipboard
  175.              sometimes confuse WinSpell.  WinSpell just stops checking
  176.              the text before completion and comes back as if it
  177.              finished.  Workaround:  Copy the entire document to the
  178.              clipboard.  WinSpell will grab only the text from the
  179.              clipboard and check that.

  182.      Very minor fixes to version control numbers and whatnot.

  187.      Major changes to the WinSpell keyboard filter.
  188.           1) Moved most of the DLL code into the Application.  This is
  189.              due to some other, rather famous no less, applications which
  190.              weren't properly hooking into the Windows keyboard filters.
  191.              WinSpell, although doing things the 'safe' way, was knocking
  192.              other applications out due to their improper initialization
  193.              of the Windows Keyboard Filter.  WinSpell now recognizes
  194.              dangerous applications methodologies of Keyboard Hooking and
  195.              loads safely without bothering the offending applications in
  196.              the hook chain.
  197.           2) New mechanisms for looking at the characters typed.  Number
  198.              parsing and special character parsing is much better now.
  199.  
  200. Version 2.00
  201.     1) Completely new dictionary engine.  Highly compressed format.
  202.     2) Fixes to handle pictures in Windows Write files correctly.
  203.     3) Much more sophisticated keyboard monitoring system. 
  204.        Smarter recognition of what is and isn't a word.

  206.     5) Phonetic (soundex) lookups.

  209.     Note that there is a very minor price increase.  This
  210.     reflects R&TH Inc.'s commitment to quality at a low price. 
  211.     Version 2.00 was slated for the release of new file formats,
  212.     and in place file correction.  This version does not include
  213.     those filters.  This is a major contributor to the decreased
  214.     size of the expected price increase.  If and when R&TH
  215.     releases such support, the cost of WinSpell user support will
  216.     require a large price increase.
